Greg Pritchard has been a sound recordist for ten years and recently he has been investigating remote microphones (contact mic, hydrophones, and others) that can send a signal back to a listening station, in this case from up the Telstra tower in the middle of Shepparton to speakers on the ground at the base.
Remote microphones on the Telstra tower will give an idea of what it sound like in the air.
Greg Pritchard has been a sound recordist for over a decade, and has recently been exploring remote microphones— contact mics and hydrophones — that can transmit live audio signals to a listening station. In this project, he turns his attention to one of Shepparton’s most iconic landmarks, the Shepparton Observation Tower or better known as the “Telstra Tower”. By placing microphones on the observation deck, he captures the sounds of the air—wind currents, passing birds, and the ever-present hum of the city below. These sounds will be relayed to speakers at the tower’s base, offering listeners an immersive and unexpected auditory experience of Shepparton from above.
