Tru Dowling

The Goulburn Valley Writers Group are eager to present a morning filled with nourishing words and a breakfast to match.  Our main course of poetry will be presented by renowned Bendigo poet, Tru Dowling, followed by a sprinkling of poems from our own group members.

Tru Dowling is a poet, performer, freelance writer and editor. She has taught novel writing, poetry, story-telling and non-fiction at Victoria University, Bendigo Tafe and privately for over 20 years. She has also worked in hospitality, counselling, and as a singer-songwriter for The Wagtales. Tru’s poems have been awarded, read or published in Australia, Ireland, the UK and USA.

Tru has appeared at various writers’ festivals as emcee, workshop presenter, guest writer and judge, and exhibited her work alongside artists and musicians. Community projects, social justice, nature, and how we talk to each other inspire her writing. Her next book is Canopy, a poetry collection due out in 2024.  Other published works include:  Memoirs of a Consenting Victim, Mark Time Books, 2011 and Butcher Baker His-Story Maker, Birdfish Books, 2020.
