Broken Creek weave compelling musical reimagining’s of Australiana through intricate chamber folk arrangements for banjo, guitar, violin and voice that envisions songs, stories and musical traditions from the past to connect them to our present moment. Lachlan Heycox (guitar/banjo/mandolin/percussion) and Erin Heycox (vocals/fiddle) grew up in regional border towns along the Murray River steeped in bushbands and balladeers before moving to Melbourne to study music and history.

Named for the creek Erin grew up near, the name Broken Creek signals a love of traditional folk music with an adventurous musical bent to “break” with the same old ways of playing folk music.

Broken Creek’s debut album ‘Small Town Anthropologies’ was shortlisted as a finalist for the Australian Folk Music Awards ‘Traditional Album of the Year’ (2022). The album launched a national Small Town Tour that continues to share pop-up choirs, harmonies in church halls, folk festivals and recording tunes in gorgeous locations.

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners, the Yorta Yorta Nation and the clans whose lands cover the area now called Greater Shepparton, the Kailtheban, Bangerang, and Nguaria-iilaiam-wurrung. We acknowledge that First Peoples have never ceded sovereignty over their lands. This always was, and always will be, their country. We are conscious that colonial laws and practices led to displacement and disempowerment, and that they continue to do so with a profound and rippling effect. We pay respect to Elders past and present, and to emerging leaders. We value their vision and strength that enabled the continuity of culture and connectedness to country.
