Birdlife in kaleidoscopic living colour
Olivia Evans-Smith
‘Flight of colour’ is the debut exhibition from local artist Olivia Evans-Smith.
The exhibition presents a series of pieces showcasing the richly varied and constantly changing colours found among birdlife.
As a child, Evans-Smith recalls being fascinated by nature’s small examples of colour. Surrounded by landscapes largely composed of green, brown and blue, she would seek out the tiniest, often fleeting glimpses of kaleidoscopic palettes.
The collection of acrylic-on-canvas pieces present a deliberate variety of colour; animals ordinarily moving swiftly through life are stilled, with layers and intricate brush strokes creating vibrancy.
